Kurupt (born November 23, 1972 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; real name Ricardo Emmanuel Brown ), also known as Kurupt the Kingpin and Young Gotti , is an American rapper .

biography

Kurupt was born Ricardo Emmanuel Brown on November 23, 1972 in Philadelphia . As a teenager, Kurupt moved to Hawthorne , California, to live with his father. Kurupt later moved alone to South Central, a suburb of Los Angeles to the south . He now lives in Long Beach , California .

In the early 1990s he founded the group Tha Dogg Pound together with Snoop Doggy Dogg and his cousin Dat Nigga Daz alias Daz Dillinger . In 1992 he worked on Dr. Dr's album The Chronic made his first appearance before features followed on Snoop Dogg's album Doggystyle . Three years later he made his debut alongside his partner Daz Dillinger as Tha Dogg Pound with the album Dogg Food . Along with The Chronic , Doggystyle and All Eyez On Me, this album is one of the classics of West Coast hip-hop . A number of other featureings have followed to this day, including on the LP All Eyez on Me from 2Pac or on Kool Savas ' debut album The Best Day of My Life . In 1998 Kurupt made his solo debut with the double album Kuruption . More solo albums followed. When he had again signed a contract with Death Row Records due to financial problems, there were intermittent quarrels with his companions Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger. During this time he founded his own label Kustapo Records . But later they reconciled and it came to the Dogg Pound reunion.

Kurupt is a member of a Crips street gang, the Rollin '60's Crips, to which he often refers in his music. Kurupt has worked with almost all West Coast giants in his career , including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Daz, also with Nate Dogg , Cypress Hill , Yukmouth and many more.
