All Eyez on Me is an album by American rapper Tupac Shakur from 1996. It was the first studio double album in the history of rap. The first of two albums by the artist for the label Death Row Records , in which label owner Suge Knight acted as executive producer , is considered to be one of the most important hip-hop albums of the 1990s; the All Music Guide called it "2Pac's magnum opus ".

The album features a number of guest contributions from hip-hop musicians such as The Outlawz (on All About You and Thug Passion ) and Snoop Dogg ( 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted and All About You ). The singles 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted and California Love can be found on the album . The latter (with the B-side How Do U Want It ) as well as the album reached number 1 in the American charts .

All Eyez On Me reached # 1 on the US Billboard 200 charts. In the first week 556,000 units of the album could be sold. The first single How Do U Want It / California Love was also number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The record was also able to celebrate chart successes outside of North America. In Germany, the album entered the charts at number 92 in the 10th week of 1996, but was able to improve to position 16 in the following weeks. In total, the record stayed in the German Top 100 for 24 weeks. All Eyez On Me reached number 5 in Sweden and number 99 in the album charts in France. Tupac's album was also number 11 in the Netherlands and number 34 in the charts in Norway. In both Switzerland and New Zealand, the most successful placement was 15 in the local charts. Moreover occupied All Eyez On Me 34th place in Belgium.

The sound carrier is one of the best-selling rap albums of all time.

At the 1997 Grammy Awards , All Eyez on Me was nominated for Best Rap Album , but lost to The Score by the Fugees .

The single for the piece California Love received two Grammy nominations in the categories Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group after Tupac's death . In the 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by the music magazine Rolling Stone , California Love ranked 346th.

criticism

The music magazine Rolling Stone rated the album in 1996 with three out of a possible five rating points. The texts are criticized as being less successful. In contrast, the music of the songs is rated positively. In particular that of Dr. Dre produced songs California Love and Can't C me are singled out as the best examples of melodic inventiveness .

The album was rated five out of five possible points in the Milestones column of the online magazine laut.de.
