Fugees

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The group Fugees was made in 1993, American hip-hop - band , which comprises three members: Wyclef Jean , Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel insisted. In the 1990s, it was one of the most famous hip-hop groups.

Career

They released the album Blunted on Reality after being on stage for a relatively long time, but the album failed to live up to their audience's expectations. Despite the failure of the first album, The Score became one of the best-selling albums in 1996 and was one of the first rap albums with significant reggae influences. The Fugees were known for their unusual choice of covered songs and samples. For example, The Score included covers of No Woman, No Cry ( Bob Marley ), and Killing Me Softly ( Lori Lieberman ).

separation

To date, the Fugees have not officially revealed why they split after The Score . Rumors circulated that Hill and Jean had a serious argument. The fact is, however, that Hill became pregnant for the first time in 1997 and as a result initially decided against continuing his career. She later celebrated the situation at that time in her song Zion (on her 1998 solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ):

"Look at your career" they said,
"Lauryn, Baby, use your head!"
But instead I chose to use my heart.

Years later, in an MTV Masters interview, she said that she had "moved in an unhealthy direction" and that Zion (her first child and thus probably the main reason for the separation) was her "salvation. Success will pass, but my family will still love me next year and the year after next. "

Regardless of this, like Michel and Jean, she started a successful solo career.

comeback

Seven years after their separation, the three appeared together again for the first time in Dave Chappelle's Block Party ; after that they gave concerts again as The Fugees . In 2006 the single Take It Easy was released.
