E-40 (rapper)
E-40 (born November 15, 1967 in Vallejo , California ; real name Earlington Reginald Stevens III ) is an American rapper from the San Francisco Bay Area . His album In a Major Way (1995) was awarded a platinum record in the USA , with three other albums he achieved gold status .
The rapper uses a variety of names. In addition to his stage name E-40 , he is also known by the nicknames Charlie Hustle , E-Bonics , 40 Fonzarelli , The Ambassador of the Bay , The Ballatician , 40 Belafonte , E-Pheezy , Fortywater and Earl Poppin 'His Collar .
Earl chose the “40” in “E-40” as an allusion to the “40s” - in American colloquial language, a glass bottle for malt beverages or beer that contains 40 fluid ounces . The "E" was derived from Earl's first name.
Career
After a talent show at Grambling State University , E-40 and his cousin B-Legit decided to try a career in rap. They moved back to Vallejo and teamed up with E-40's brother D-Shot to form the Most Valuable Players group. E-40's uncle, Saint Charles, was a gospel singer and helped them put out recordings. E-40's sister, Suga T , later joined the group to form The Click .
After the release of The Click's first album ( Down and Dirty ), E-40's solo debut album was released. From 1994 to 2003 he was under contract with Jive Records .
E-40 released over ten albums when counting the albums with The Click. He appeared in numerous film soundtracks and had guest appearances on albums of befriended rappers.
