Abraham Mateo (born August 25, 1998 in San Fernando , Cadiz ) is a Spanish pop singer and actor. He is the younger brother of Tony Mateo , a member of the Spanish band Lérica .
Career
Abraham Mateo took part in music competitions in his home region of Andalusia at the age of seven and two years later won the prize for best newcomer at the national music competition. At the age of nine he made his debut in the television show "Menuda Noche" on the Andalusian television channel Canal Sur , where he has since performed regularly in front of prominent Latin musicians such as Raphael, David Bisbal , David Bustamante and Juan Luis Guerra . The videos of his performances appeared on YouTube , where he was discovered by music producers from the record company Emi Music . At the age of ten he was signed to Emi Music Spain . His self-named debut album Abraham Mateo and the single Vuelve conmigo were released in Spain in December 2009 and were produced by the Spanish music producer and songwriter Jacobo Calderon , who worked with Latin musicians such as Raphael, David Bisbal and Luis Fonsi . The album includes seven of Calderon's own songs and four cover versions of popular Latin songs. The album also features a duet with the young French singer Caroline Costa , who took second place on the 2008 French talent show Incroyable Royale .
In early 2009, Abraham Mateo made his debut in the Spanish television film Dias sin luz (Days without Light), which was broadcast on Antena 3 . In the biography Raphael: una historia de superacion personal (Raphael: a story of personal development) (2010) about the life of the prominent Spanish singer Raphael, Abraham played the role of the young Raphael and sang some songs from Raphael's childhood.
The big breakthrough for the young singer came with the single Señorita in 2013. In the third attempt, the song jumped to number 3 in the Spanish charts and then stayed in the top 50 for months. In November, the second album AM , which was released stayed in the charts for over a year with interruptions. With the song Lánzalo , which was released late , he reached his best single placement in March 2014 with number 2, even if the song only stayed in the charts for two weeks.
The follow-up album Who I Am by the now 16-year-old was able to build on the success and entered the charts at number 5 in November 2014. After falling to number 93 six months later, it rose to number 1 in the charts in June 2015 when a special edition with a bonus DVD was released.
On November 13th 2015 Abraham Mateo will release his new album "Are You Ready". Two songs on the album, Old School and If I can't have you, were available to buy in advance.
