Manuel Turizo Zapata (born April 12, 2001 in Montería ), also known by the acronym  MTZ , is a Colombian singer.

Life

Manuel Turizo grew up in his hometown, where he attended the Colegio Británico de Montería and took lessons from a Cuban singing teacher who conducted the orchestra of the Universidad del Sinú . He also learned the violin , saxophone , guitar and other musical instruments:

On December 6th, 2016 he published his first track “ Baila conmigo ” (translated: Dance with me) on YouTube and shortly afterwards “ Vámonos ” (roughly: Let's go, let's pack it).

He then became known with his song " Una lady como tú " (2016; Eine Lady wie du; published by La Industria Inc. and Sony Music ), which he wrote together with his three years older brother Julián Turizo, who at the time was in Medellín studied law and who accompanies him on the ukulele . After first appearances in clubs, e.g. B. in Montería, Bogotá and as support for the Puerto Rican Ozuna in Cartagena they gave their first big concert after the success of the title in July 2017 in Bucaramanga .

The track, which was initially published on YouTube on March 16, 2017 and was successful there, which led to a contract with the La Industria label, was played on numerous channels and nominated for the Colombian Kids Choice Award 2017 as Favorite Song of 2017. Outside Latin America , the song reached number 7 on the singles chart in Spain and also reached number 32 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs in the United States on October 14, 2018 .

Seven months after " Una lady como tú " the brothers released their single Bésame (2017; Kiss me) together with Peter González Torres aka "Valentino", known from the Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Magnate & Valentino .

The single “ Déjala que vuelva ”, which he recorded together with Piso 21 , was awarded double platinum by ASINCOL in Colombia .

The track " Déjate llevar " (2017; Let yourself drift; Universal Music ), recorded together with Juan Magán , Belinda , Snova and B-Case , also entered the Spanish single charts in early December 2017.

Manuel Turizo currently lives in Medellín.

Music genre

In his texts he shows his feelings; they do not deal with drugs, sex and the like, but with everyday things of people of all ages. The characteristics of his lyrics are comparable to those of Nicky Jam , with whom he recorded a remix of “ Una lady como tú ” in 2017 .
