Ozuna

Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado , known by his stage name Ozuna (* 13. March 1992 in San Juan ) is a Puerto Rican , Dominican reggaeton - singer . With his songs he made it into several charts and became one of the most famous musicians in Latin American music . Ozuna has reached several hundred million views on YouTube with his songs , which is reminiscent of the beginnings of other successful urban artists such as Farruko and Maluma and is the 10th most- streamed artist on Spotify . He made Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2019 .

life and career

Early years

Ozuna was born in San Juan to Dominican parents. He grew up in rather poor circumstances and was raised mainly by his paternal grandmother. His father, who worked as a dancer for reggaeton artist Vico C for three years, died when Ozuna was three years old. His mother had very little money to raise him properly. In 2010 he moved to New York City , where he lived for three years. He had developed a passion for Latin American music at an early age and began composing songs at the age of twelve.

Musical beginnings

He made his debut in 2012 as a singer with the song Imaginando . He used to work under the stage name J Oz and worked with Musicologo & Menes before becoming known.

In 2014 he signed a recording deal with Golden Family Records and began releasing his songs on YouTube . That same year, its continued popularity began with the song Si No Te Quiere , which he recorded with rapper D.OZi. This song was successful on the radio and eventually became known throughout Latin America . Since then he has appeared in many shows in South America.

breakthrough

In early 2016 Ozuna became known for his appearance in the single La Ocasión , which was created in a collaboration with DJ Luian, Mambo Kingz, De La Ghetto, Arcángel and Anuel AA. The single reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. In March Ozuna released a remix of his song No Quiere Enamorarse with Daddy Yankee . In September he released his best-known single at the time, Dile Que Tu Me Quieres , which took him to number 13 on the Billboard Latin Charts by the end of the year.

In June 2017, VP Entertainment President Vicente Saavedra signed an agreement with Sony Music Latin that enables the distribution of songs from Saavedras agencies and kicked off Ozuna's first studio album, called Odisea. It was released on August 11th. The tour for the album began in Atlanta on May 26, 2017 and spanned over 25 cities, including Chicago , Miami and Los Angeles . Eventually it was renamed the Odisea World Tour, which resulted in Ozuna visiting European cities and Latin America as well.

The single Te Vas reached more than 670 million views on YouTube , making it Ozuna's most played song on the site (excluding collaborations). In 2017, Ozuna released many singles that made it into the charts and generated several hundred million views on YouTube. Due to his success, he also had several collaborations with well-known Latin American artists such as Daddy Yankee , Bad Bunny , Chris Jeday , Arcángel , Cardi B and J Balvin .

In December 2017 Ozuna released the single La Modelo with Cardi B and made it to number 3 on the Hot Latin Songs Charts.

His second studio album Aura , which was released on August 24, 2018, debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200 . To promote the album, Ozuna took part in the Aura Tour, which began in Madrid on July 26, 2018 . His YouTube channel has been subscribed to over 24 million times.

Private life and engagement

Ozuna is married to Taína Meléndez. They have two children, named Sofía (born 2014) and Juan Andrés (born 2016). In 2017 he founded the charity Odisea Children. He has a close friendship with the controversial rapper Anuel AA .

style

Ozuna is part of a modern wave of singers hailing from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic . While many of his songs contain explicit sexual lyrics, he avoids lyrics that explicitly objectify women or portray them disrespectfully. As described in an article in the New York Times , Ozuna can handle multiple genres at once and is a testament to the contemporary diversity of Latin Pop and the effectiveness of its singing. He has a nimble voice that, according to the press, sometimes unfolds like a ballad and sometimes like a rapper .
