Luis Armando Lozada Cruz (born September 8, 1971 in New York ) is an American rapper and reggaeton singer known under the name Vico C.

stage name

Cruz is also called The Philosopher , but chose Vico C as his stage name . Vico stands for the philosopher Giambattista Vico , C is supposed to symbolize the name Cruz, which is the middle name of his mother. It is also called Visco by the Dominicans .

biography

Cruz grew up in Puerta de Tierra , a poor neighborhood in San Juan , Puerto Rico . He attended art and music schools where he began his rapper career at the age of nine. At first he bought cassettes in drugstores, where he recorded his songs himself and sold them to his friends. His first "production" earned him a total of $ 20.

Vico C uses Spanish texts and raps phrases or slangs in English. 1989 was the first major breakthrough in Vico C's career, as rap music became popular in Puerto Rico with the hit from Ruben DJ . Vico C finally hit the charts with his song La recta . With this song he became known in Latin America .

In 1994 he survived a car accident that he suffered while touring the Dominican Republic . At the same time he became addicted to drugs for the first time . He opened his label, which by singers as Francheska or Lisa M. was promoted.

In 1998 his first album was released after his rehabilitation , which he called Aquel que había muerto . In 1999 he gave his tour Antes y despues . In the same year his album was released again, which won the 1999 Latino Rap Award .

In 2003 he was admitted to the drug clinic after relapsing into the drug scene .

In 2004 he released his album En honor a la verdad , which was a success. It won the Latin Grammy Awards for Best Urban Album.

In 2005 he produced his third album Desahogo and a year later he gave another concert in San Juan, which was sold out.

He worked with many singers, such as Ivy Queen , Eddie Dee , Mala Rodrigues and Héctor y Tito . He also produced songs for the Spanish reggaeton duo Luny Tunes , which Warner Bros. Looney Toons is the namesake.
