Remy Ma (born May 30, 1980 in Bronx , New York ; real name Reminisce Smith ) is an American rapper.

Career

On February 7, 2006, Remy Ma's debut album There's Something About Remy: Based on a True Story was released via SRC Records . It includes guest contributions by singer Keyshia Cole as well as Ne-Yo , Big Pun , Fat Joe and Ivy Queen and was produced by Scott Storch , Swizz Beatz , The Alchemist and Cool & Dre . The album sold 37,000 times in its first week and debuted at number 33 on the Billboard 200 album charts. The tracks Whuteva , Conceited and Feels So Good were released as singles.

A few months after the release of her debut album, Remy Ma left the group Terror Squad . The breakup was followed by a diss song by the rapper against Fat Joe . A video was also shot for the song Weatherman .

The BX Files was released in 2007 on the Sure Shot Recordings label . Papoose and Jae Millz were among the guests. After her imprisonment, she released an album with Fat Joe called Plata O Plomo . The first release from the album All the Way Up with French Montana was a success. In addition to the joint project with Fat Joe, Remy is working on her album Seven Winters & Six Summers . Remy Ma can also be heard on the remix for the song I Don't with Mariah Carey and YG . The second release from the album is Money Showers with Ty Dolla Sign .

Allegations of attempted murder

On July 14th, 2007, Remy Ma was arrested. She was charged with shooting a 23-year-old woman outside a nightclub after an argument. Makeda Barnes-Joseph, the victim, who had been friends with Remy Ma for fifteen years, was not seriously injured. Remy Ma stated that the shot was accidentally released. On March 27, 2008, a Manhattan court found her guilty. Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison on May 12, 2008. After six years, she was released on August 1, 2014.
