DJ Kayslay (born August 16, 1966 under the name Keith Grayson ) is an American DJ and radio host from Harlem in New York . He is also under the pseudonyms The Drama King and Kay Slay and as Graffiti Artists at December known.

Career

Kay Slay grew up with his grandparents in El Barrio , East Harlem. In the late 1970s, Grayson began painting graffiti in New York under the pseudonym Deezy Dez. At this time, the new style of music hip-hop was developing in New York . Under his pseudonym DEZ, Grayson is represented in the film Style Wars and in the graffiti book Subway Art .

Grayson saw Roddy Woodson, with whom he was friends, for the first time how to use turntables and amplifiers. Kayslay started DJing under the name DJ KG. After the musician later withdrew from the music business for some time, he changed his pseudonym to DJ Kay Slay, as the Naughty-by-Nature member DJ Kay Gee Grayson's first pseudonym had taken over in the meantime.

DJ Kay Slay met hip-hip pioneers like Grandmaster Flash . In the late 1980s, Grayson was jailed for a period of time because of his high levels of cocaine and angel dust .

Between 1993 and 1994 DJ Kayslay began producing mixtapes. The musician used current songs, which he changed with the help of turntable tricks. In 1999 Kayslay received the Mixtape Award , which was founded by Justo Faison. Faison invited Kayslay to the award ceremony in 1999. He didn't know that he was one of the winners and was surprised at the award ceremony. This developed a close relationship between Grayson and Faison, who died in a car accident at the age of 36.

Kay Slay hosts the weekly mix show Streetsweeper Radio . This takes four hours and is broadcast via Eminems and Paul Rosenberg's Shade 45 . He hosts the programs The Drama Hour and Takin 'It to the Streets on the New York hip-hop broadcaster Hot 97 . In Germany he is known for his role as host on the mix tape Airmax Muzik by rapper Fler .
