Abd-ar-Rahman Ahmad Ali Tur

Abd-ar-Rahman Ahmad Ali Tur († 2004 ) was leader of the Somali National Movement - a rebel organization of the Isaaq - Clans , in the north of Somalia against the government Siad Barre was fighting - and of 28 May 1991 to 16 May 1993 the first President of Somaliland, which was unilaterally declared independent .

He belonged to the Habr Yunis-Isaaq clan.

In 1994, Abd-ar Rahman Ahmad Ali Tur declared - contrary to the position of his successor Mohammed Haji Ibrahim Egal - that the decision to secede Somaliland had been withdrawn; he himself advocated rapprochement with the rest of Somalia. Thereupon armed clashes broke out in Hargeysa between his supporters and those of Egals.
