Earth Song is a song by Michael Jackson and the third single from Michael Jackson's 1995 double album HIStory - Past, Present and Future Book I. It is a pop ballad that combines elements of blues and gospel as well as opera contains and was written and composed by Jackson.
Emergence
The piece was written in the Vienna Hotel Imperial . It appears in a number of songs by Jackson with a socially critical background such as We Are the World , Man in the Mirror or Heal the World . Earth Song was Jackson's first track to deal with ecological aspects. However, other earth-related issues, such as war, are touched upon in the song. The play is to be understood as a complaint about the destructive and reckless behavior of the people.

In the UK , Earth Song went straight to number one in the charts and stayed there for six weeks; there, this Christmas number one hit is Michael Jackson's best-selling single with over a million copies to date.
