Dangerous ( Engl. For " Dangerous ") is the eighth studio album by American pop singer Michael Jackson . It was released on November 26, 1991 by Epic Records and wasthe first Jackson album since 1975 that was not produced with Quincy Jones . It has been sold over 32 million times.

background

Prior to Dangerous , Jackson aimed for a remake of his hugely successful Thriller album with Bad . But since Bad could not really build on the commercial success of Thriller , Jackson separated from his long-time producer Quincy Jones and instead turned to new influences.

Dangerous is one of the music styles of modern R&B , hip-hop and New Jack Swing , which is considered to be the invention of Teddy Riley - main producer of Dangerous . In contrast to Jones, producer Riley also worked as a songwriter on the songs of Dangerous .

Commercial win

Internationally, sales are over 32 million, including 7 million in the USA and 2 million in Germany. In the US, Dangerous sold seven million times in less than two months, breaking its own record with a bathroom , which hit the seven million mark in four months. In terms of sales, Dangerous is in the top 3 of Jackson's most successful albums (along with Thriller and Bad ). In the UK, Jackson achieved more top ten hits with this album than any of his others, namely seven.

Film music

The album contains two official soundtracks to different films from 1993 and is the only work by a musician to date that has this incident.

Trivia

  • Six days before the album was released, on November 20, 1991, an armed gang robbed 30,000 copies of the album at Los Angeles International Airport .
  • The title song Dangerous was supposed to be released as a single in the fall of 1993 (end of October, after Will You Be There ), but was not released after all - probably because of the scandal of child abuse with Evan Chandler, which was widely noticed at the time, it was found to be inappropriate for the time. (see Michael Jackson # accusation of child abuse ) It is unusual for a Michael Jackson album that the title song did not appear as a single. The accompanying dance performance, however, has been shown in frequently modified versions and choreographies at many events and concerts since 1993, including Wetten, dass ..? in November 1995.
  • The remixes of the single Dangerous were only contributed in 1997 as bonus tracks for the single Blood on the Dance Floor .
  • In May 1999 Jackson lost a plagiarism lawsuit against the Italian singer Al Bano because passages from the hit Will You Be There matched Al Bano's song I cigni di Balaka .
  • For the introduction to Will You Be There , parts of the Allegro energico, semper ben marcato from the fourth movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th symphony were used.

Dangerous - The Short Films

In 1993, initially on video and in 2001 also on DVD, Dangerous - The Short Films, a compilation containing all music videos, performances and other recordings from the Dangerous years 1991 to 1993, was released. Since 2008 the DVD has also been available in part together with the album Dangerous as a CD / DVD combination.
