The This Is It tour was a comeback tour of pop singer Michael Jackson planned for July 13, 2009 to March 6, 2010 . Because of his sudden death on June 25th, 2009, 18 days before the tour began, it no longer came about.

background

At the beginning of 2009 Michael Jackson signed a contract in which it was stipulated that Jackson would appear for 10 concerts in the O₂ Arena London. Since all tickets for the 10 shows were sold out within a few minutes and the demand for tickets was still high, the decision was made, piece by piece, for 40 more concerts, all of which also sold out. In total, over 1 million tickets were sold.

rehearse

Jackson initially rehearsed at the Forum Arena in Inglewood , California . However, since more space was required for the large and lavish stage, the rehearsals for the show were moved to the nearby Staples Center in Los Angeles . The recordings of the rehearsals are published on the DVD This Is It .

course

The tour should start on July 13th, 2009 in the O₂ Arena London and stay there for 49 more concerts. Jackson's managers said Michael was in great shape and was really looking forward to the concerts. But doctors and Michael Jackson himself doubted that he could get through 50 concerts. The tour was canceled due to Jackson's death.

show

The show was supposed to start with a large statue, made up of many small screens, with a ball in its hand. Then the ball should hover around the statue and fly through the audience. At the end of the intro it should land on the statue's hand again. In the meantime, eventful videos should be played on the small screens. Then the statue was planned to open and Michael Jackson to jump out. On his cue, the show should begin with Wanna Be Startin 'Somethin' .

Planned set list

  • Due to the long set list, Jackson planned to sing only the first verse and the chorus of many songs ("When Be Startin 'Somethin'", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Black Or White", ...) since it otherwise there would have been time problems.
  • For the last few appearances on the shows, Jackson planned to sing "River Ripple," a ballad he had written, with an African choir and his children.
  • The song "Best Of Joy", which appeared on the 2010 album " Michael ", should have been played at the last concert before " Man in the Mirror ".
  • The song "Pictures" (together with Lady Gaga ) was planned for the opening of the first concerts .

The set list does not exactly match the songs from the film This Is It and the CD of the same name, as not all samples of all songs were shown in the film.
