This discography is an overview of the musical works of the American pop , soul , R&B , funk , disco and rock singer Michael Jackson . According to the sources, he has sold over 350 million records to date, including over 142 million in his home country of the United States and over 11.8 million in Germany . In his career he topped the US album and single charts 22 times and topped the German album and single charts nine times.

Michael Jackson published his first songs in the 1960s as part of the Jackson Five . For a full listing of his musical successes with the band see: The Jackson Five / Discography

He released his first solo single Got to Be There in 1971. The album of the same name was released in January 1972 and reached number 14 in the US album charts. His second studio album, Ben , was released seven months later and placed in the top 5 on the Billboard 200 . With the following studio albums Music & Me and Forever, Michael he could not build on the success of his first albums. With Thriller he had his international and commercial breakthrough in 1982. The album was number one in ten countries and has sold over 66 million copies since its release, including 33 million copies in the US alone. Five years later, the successful successor, Bad , appeared . It reached the top position in 13 countries and sold over 35 million times. With Dangerous in 1991 he achieved similarly great success.

The studio albums HIStory - Past, Present and Future Book I in 1995 and Invincible in 2001 could do just as well, but did not match the sales figures of their predecessors.

Video albums

The following table lists all DVDs and video cassettes in which music plays a major role. It can be music films as well as music videos or concert recordings.

The DualDisc collection Visionary - The Video Singles is classified under Other albums as well as DVDs and video cassettes , since a DualDisc is half a DVD and half a CD .

DVDs have often won awards without ever being in the charts. This can be explained by the fact that DVDs generally sell more slowly than albums or singles, for example. No awards were given for videotapes .
