Tim Shaw

Timothy A. "Tim" Shaw (born November 8, 1957 in Long Beach , California ) is a retired American swimmer and water polo player .

In 1974 he held the world records in the 200 m, 400 m and 1500 m freestyle . At the World Championships in 1975 he was world champion in the 200 m, 400 m, 1500 m and with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay of the USA. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he won the silver medal in the 400 m freestyle. A year later he resigned from swimming to continue his career as a water polo player. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles he again won the silver medal, this time with the US water polo team, making him one of the few athletes who won Olympic medals in two sports.

In 1989 he was inducted into the international swimming sport hall of fame .
