Rainer Henkel (born February 27, 1964 in Opladen ) is a former German swimmer .

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul he won the bronze medal with the German 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. He was also world champion in 1986 over 400 m and 1500 m freestyle and European champion in 1987 over the long distance and with the relay over 4 × 200 m freestyle. In total, he brought it to 21 German championship titles in his active time . He started for SV Rhenania Köln and was trained by Gerhard Hetz and Elmar Schneider.

Rainer Henkel was married to the German high jumper Heike Henkel from 1989 to 2001 . There were two children from this marriage. In 2005 he married the high jumper Maria.

After his swimming career, Henkel competed in car races as a pure amateur in the Porsche Cup , but did not have any significant successes.
