Stefan Pfeiffer (born November 15, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a former German swimmer and multiple Olympic participant .

Sporting successes

At the European Championships in Rome in 1983 , Pfeiffer won the bronze medal in the 1500 m freestyle. After Pfeiffer won the gold medal in the 1500 m freestyle at the German Swimming Championships in Munich in 1984 a year later , he was part of the squad for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . There he won the bronze medal in the 1500 m freestyle. In the 400 m freestyle he narrowly missed the medal ranks and ended up fourth.

In 1985 Pfeiffer again won bronze in the 1500 m freestyle at the European Championships in Sofia . At the German Championships in 1986 and 1987, Pfeiffer won the bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle. At the European Championships in 1987 in Strasbourg , he was able to repeat his success over 1500 m freestyle from Sofia. Therefore, he was nominated again for the Summer Olympics .

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he was only sixth in the 400 m freestyle, but won the silver medal in his favorite discipline in the 1500 m freestyle. 1989 was another successful year for Pfeiffer. After he won the gold medal and the bronze medal over 200 m freestyle at the German championships over 400 m freestyle and 1500 m freestyle, he was also able to take part in the disciplines of 1500 m freestyle, 400 m freestyle and 4 × 200 m freestyle at the European Championships in Bonn in 1989 each win the silver medal. Pfeiffer also made a successful start at the German Swimming Championships in Munich in 1990 , winning gold in the 1500 m freestyle and the 400 m freestyle. Then Pfeiffer was part of the team for the 1991 World Swimming Championships in Perth, Australia . There he won the bronze medal over 1500 m freestyle and the silver medal over 400 m freestyle as well as the gold medal with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. At the German Championships in 1991 he won the silver medal in the 200 m freestyle.

A year later, Pfeiffer started again at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona . In doing so, however, he narrowly missed the medal ranks over 1500 m freestyle and with the 4 × 200 m relay with fourth place. In the 400 m freestyle he was only seventh. At the German Championships in 1995 Pfeiffer tried again to qualify for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta in order to be the first German swimmer to take part in four Olympic Games. He missed the qualification, however, and ended his active swimming career at the age of 29.

After his active career, he worked, among other things, as a co-commentator for the TV channel Eurosport . He is currently employed as a commercial pilot in Business Aviation.
