Jean Taris
Jean Taris (born July 6, 1909 in Versailles , † January 10, 1977 in Grasse ) was a French swimmer .
In the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he won the silver medal in the 400m freestyle . He also set eight world records and nine European records between 1930 and 1932 . At the European Championships in Magdeburg in 1934 , he won the title in both the 400 m and the 1500 m freestyle. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he reached the final again over 400 m. In 1984 he was inducted into the international swimming sport hall of fame .
In 1931, director Jean Vigo ( L'Atalante ) made the short documentary Taris, roi de l'eau (Taris, King of the Water), a movement study with the swimmer Jean Taris.
