Gabriele Detti (born August 29, 1994 in Livorno ) is an Italian freestyle swimmer who became world champion in 2017 over 800 meters and won six medals in individual competitions at European championships .

His first major success was at the European Short Course Championships in Chartres in 2012 , when he was runner-up in the 400 m freestyle title in 3: 41.66 minutes behind Frenchman Yannick Agnel (3: 37.54). At the European Short Course Championships 2013 in Herning , Denmark , he won the bronze medal over 1500 m behind the Hungarian Gergely Gyurta (14: 30.26) and the Faroe Islands Pál Joensen (14: 35.99) with a time of 14: 36.43 min.

At the 2012 Olympics in London, he was eliminated in his preliminary run over 1500 m as fourth and finished in 13th place. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2014, his compatriot Gregorio Paltrinieri proved to be the fastest over 800 and over 1500 meters ; Detti was third behind Pál Joensen in 7: 49.35 min and 14: 52.53 min.

In 2016 he won the bronze medal in the 400 m and 800 m freestyle at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest , Detti won the 800 meter freestyle title in a new European record time of 7: 40.77 minutes.

In 2019 he won the bronze medal at the world championships over 400 m freestyle. With 3: 43.23 min he set a new national record.
