István Bárány
István Bárány [ ˈiʃtvaːn ˈbaːraːɲ ] (born December 20, 1907 in Eger , Austria-Hungary , † February 21, 1995 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian swimmer .
At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , he won the silver medal in the 100 m freestyle . Four years later at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles he won the bronze medal with the Hungarian 4 × 200 m relay. At the European Championships in Paris in 1931, he won the 100 m and 400 m freestyle title. In 1926 he had already become the first European champion over 100 m freestyle.
In 1978 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
