Velimir Stjepanović (born August 7, 1993 in Abu Dhabi ) is a Serbian freestyle and dolphin swimmer . In 2015 he is the current European champion in the 200 and 400 m freestyle.

Career

Stjepanović achieved perhaps his greatest success in 2014 at the World Short Course Championships in Doha . In 3: 38.17 minutes he was only beaten by the Hungarian Péter Bernek (3: 34.32 (CR)) and the British James Guy (3: 36.35). Sixth place jumped out over 200 m.

In the same year he became double European champion at the 2014 European Swimming Championships in Berlin : he left Paul Biedermann (1: 45.80) and Yannick Agnel (1: 46.65) behind in 1: 45.78 . Over 400 m he landed in 3: 45.66 ahead of the Italian Andrea Mitchell D'Arrigo (3: 46.91) and the British Jay Lelliott (3: 47.50).

At the 2013 European Short Course Championships in Herning , Denmark , there was gold over the 200 m dolphin in 1: 51.27 ahead of the Pole Paweł Korzeniowski (1: 51.36) and the Russian Nikolai Skworzow (1: 51.62). In the 400 m freestyle it reached bronze in 3: 40.91 behind Nikita Lobinzew (3: 39.47) and Andrea Mitchell D'Arrigo (3: 40.54).

At the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey , there were three gold medals over the 200 m dolphin and the 200 and 400 m freestyle.

At the beginning of his career in the men's field, the 2012 Olympics were in London . Here he finished sixth in the 200 m dolphin race in 1: 55.07; it won Chad le Clos (1: 52.96) in front of Michael Phelps (1: 53.01).
