James Guy (born November 26, 1995 in Bury , Greater Manchester ) is a British swimmer who specializes in the 200 and 400 m freestyle courses and also competes in butterfly swimming.

Career

James Guy made his debut at the European Junior Championships in Antwerp in 2012 , where he won bronze in the 400m freestyle. A year later he took part in the British senior championships for the first time and also won bronze in the 200 and 400 m freestyle. After two gold medals at the Junior European Championships 2013 in Poznan , he entered the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona at the age of 17 , where he was fifth in the 400 m freestyle and eighth in the 4 × 200 m freestyle. He also won three medals at the 2013 Junior World Championships in Dubai , including gold in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay.

In 2014 Guy was three times British champion in the 200 and 400 m freestyle and 100 m butterfly. He then won his first international senior medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with bronze in the 400m freestyle behind Ryan Cochrane and David McKeon . In addition, he swam in the run-up to the English season over 4 × 100 m individual medley, which won gold in the final. At the end of the year he won silver at the World Short Course Championships in Doha over 400 m freestyle behind Péter Bernek under was over 200 m freestyle tenth. At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan , James Guy first won silver in the 400 m freestyle behind Olympic champion Sun Yang , before two days later he took gold in the 200 m freestyle ahead of Sun and Paul Biedermann . With the British relay over 4 × 200 m freestyle he was also world champion and fourth in 4 × 100 m individual medley (as a butterfly swimmer). In 2016 he won gold in the 4 × 100 m medley and bronze in the 200 m freestyle at the European Championships in London .

James Guy trains at the renowned Millfield School in Somerset with Jol Finck and Euan Dale .
