Filippo Magnini (born February 2, 1982 in Pesaro , Marche ) is a former Italian swimmer . His nickname is "Superpippo", which corresponds to the Walt Disney cartoon character Supergoof in Italy .

Career

Magnini played basketball, soccer, beach volleyball and tennis in his youth and began swimming when he was ten . From 1998 he was a member of the Italian national swimming team. Originally he mainly swam chest , but from 2000 onwards he stayed with freestyle due to the greater successes. His special routes are the short and medium freestyle distances , which is why he also often in the Italian freestyle relays is used. Magnini lives and trains in Rome .

He prefers to swim the 100 meter freestyle because it is there that he can best surprise his opponents with his ability to increase the pace over the length of the course and thus be the fastest on the last 25 meters, where his opponents are already slowing down. Today he swims for the strong Italian swimming club Larus Nuoto, Rome.

Greatest successes

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he won the bronze medal in the relay in the 4 × 200 m freestyle (together with Emiliano Brembilla , Massimiliano Rosolino and Simone Cercato ).

In 2005 he became world champion in the 100 m freestyle in Montreal and two years later he was able to repeat this title at the 2007 World Cup in Melbourne . At the 2006 World Short Course Championship in Shanghai, he won the title in the Italian relay over 4 × 100 m and 4 × 200 m freestyle.

In 2015 he won bronze at the World Championships in Kazan with the Italian 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.

Doping ban 2018

In November 2018, the then 36-year-old was banned from the Italian anti-doping agency for four years.
