David McCagg

David McCagg is a retired American swimmer .

At the World Swimming Championships in West Berlin in 1978 , he won gold in the individual competition in 100 m freestyle, as well as together with Jack Babashoff , Rowdy Gaines , James Montgomery in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and together with Bob Jackson , Nick Nevid and Joe Bottom in the Relay 4 × 100 m layers. Four years later, at the World Swimming Championships in Guayaquil , he again won gold in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. Together with Christopher Cavanaugh , Robin Leamy , Ambrose Gaines , he set a new world record with a time of 03: 19.26 minutes and thus improved the record of 03: 19.74 minutes that he set up at the 1978 World Swimming Championships.

At the Pan American Games in 1979 , McCagg won gold in the 100 m freestyle, 4 × 100 m freestyle, and 4 × 100 m medley competitions.
