Anthony Ervin

Anthony Ervin (born May 26, 1981 in Burbank , California ) is an American swimmer .

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , he shared the gold medal in the 50 m freestyle with fellow countryman Gary Hall junior in a time of 21.98 seconds . He also won the silver medal behind Australia with the US freestyle relay over 4 × 100 m. A year later he won the gold medal in the 50 m freestyle at the 2001 World Swimming Championships . In May 2005 he auctioned his gold medal on Ebay for 17,100 dollars and wanted to donate the money to UNICEF for the tsunami victims .

16 years after winning the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in the 50m freestyle, he repeated his triumph in this discipline at the age of 35 at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he finished the race in a time of 21.40 seconds before the Frenchman Florent Manaudou (21.41 seconds) won.
