Imre Zoltán von Halmay [ ˈzoltaːn ˈhɒlmɒ.i ] (born June 18, 1881 in Nagymagasfalu , † May 20, 1956 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian swimmer and swimming coach.

Zoltán von Halmay, who usually swam without footwork, started three times at the Olympic Games: At the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, he won silver in the 200 meters freestyle and bronze over 1000 meters. In 1904 in St. Louis he won gold medals over 50 yards and 100 yards freestyle, setting an Olympic record in both cases. Four years later, at the 1908 Olympic Games , he and József Munk , Imre Zachár and Béla von Las-Torres won the silver medal in the four by 200 meter freestyle and the 100 meter freestyle. He also took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens and won a gold and silver medal.

On December 3, 1905, von Halmay swam a time of 1: 05.8 minutes over 100 meters freestyle in Vienna , which is the starting time for all other records and which lasted for almost three years. On July 20, 1908, the American Charles Daniel swam this distance in 1: 05.6 minutes at the 1908 Games.

After his active career, von Halmay became a swimming coach. In 1968 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
