Walter Ris
Walter Stephen Ris , also called Wally Ris, (born January 4, 1924 in Chicago , Illinois , † December 25, 1989 in Mission Viejo , California ) was an American swimmer .
At the 1948 Summer Olympics in London , he was over 100 meters freestyle and Olympic champion with the US 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay.
The University of Iowa student won the U.S. and college freestyle sprint championships in 1947 and 1948. From 1945 to 1949, he won the 100-yard freestyle indoor title. In 1966 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
