Ricky Berens (born April 21, 1988 in Charlotte , North Carolina) is an American swimmer.

Ricky Berens is a student at the University of Texas and competes in Longhorn Aquatics . His trainers are Randy and Eddie Reese. He surprisingly qualified in the US Trials for the 2008 Summer Olympics . He finished third in the 200 m freestyle and was originally only intended for the preliminary run to the 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay. A strong performance in the run-up brought him a place in the relay, with which he was then in the final, together with Michael Phelps , Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay , in a superior manner and with a time of 6: 58.56 minutes, Olympic champion. For the first time, a time of less than seven minutes was set. The world record was improved by almost 4½ seconds. A year later, the US relay managed to improve the world record by a hundredth of a second at the 2009 World Swimming Championships in Rome, with Michael Phelps, Ricky Berens, David Walters and Ryan Lochte winning the relay the world title ahead of the Russian relay.
