Andrei Ivanovich Krylov

Andrei Ivanovich Krylov ( Russian Андрей Иванович Крылов ; born May 10, 1956 in Leningrad ) is a former Soviet swimmer . He won one gold medal and three silver medals at the Olympics.

Career

Krylow's international career began at the 1974 European Championships in Vienna. Over 400 meters freestyle he received the bronze medal behind his compatriot Alexander Samsonow and the Swede Bengt Gingsjö . The Soviet 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay consisting of Samsonow, Krylow, Viktor Aboimow and Georgi Kulikow won silver behind the relay from the Federal Republic of Germany.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Krylow competed in four disciplines. In the 200 meter freestyle, he finished fourth in 1: 50.73 minutes behind three swimmers from the United States. In the seasons, Krylov only swam in the finale. The 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay with Volodymyr Raskatow , Andrei Bogdanow , Sergei Kopljakow and Andrei Krylow received the silver medal behind the relay from the United States. The next day, the 4 x 100 meter individual medley took fifth place in the line-up of Igor Omelchenko , Arvydas Juozaitis , Evgeni Seredin and Krylow. Krylow also competed in the 100 meter freestyle and finished eighth, setting up his best time in the run-up with 52.02 seconds.

At the European Championships in Jonköping in 1977, Krylow finished second in the 200 meter freestyle behind Peter Nocke from the Federal Republic of Germany. The Soviet 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay achieved third place behind the relays from the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy in the line-up of Vladimir Bure , Sergei Labso , Sergei Kopljakow and Andrei Krylow. The Soviet 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay with Volodymyr Raskatow, Sergei Rusin , Kopljakow and Krylow won the title before the relays from the FRG and the GDR.

In 1978 the World Championships took place in West Berlin . The Soviet 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay with Sergei Rusin, Andrei Krylow, Vladimir Salnikow and Sergei Kopljakow won the silver medal behind the relay from the United States.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, swimmers from the United States were absent because of the Olympic boycott . Sergei Kopljakow won the 200 meter freestyle ahead of Andrei Krylow. In the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay, Krylow only appeared in the final. In the line-up of Sergei Kopljakow, Vladimir Salnikow, Ivar Stukolkin and Andrei Krylow, the relay won the gold medal before the relay from the GDR and the Brazilians. In the 400 meter freestyle competition, Salnikow won ahead of Krylow, who won silver in 3: 53.24 minutes from Stukolkin.

Krylow was the Soviet champion in the 100 meters freestyle in 1976 and 1978, from 1975 to 1977 he won the 200 meters freestyle. He also won seven championship titles in the various seasons. After his career, Krylow worked as a swimming coach and physical education teacher. He was a professor at the State Transport University and the University of Physical Culture in Saint Petersburg.
