Daniel Steven Kowalski (born July 2, 1975 in Singapore ) is an Australian swimmer .

Career

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , he won the silver medal on the 1,500 meter freestyle course and two bronze medals each on the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle course. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , he won the gold medal in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle swimming four years later . In addition to his success at the Summer Olympics, he won several medals at the World Swimming Championships and Commonwealth Games . After the end of his active swimming career, which he announced on May 8, 2002, Kowalski studied sports management at Bond University. Kowalski graduated in 2003 and got a job as a swim coach at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2007. Kowalski is openly gay in Australia.
