Klete Keller (born March 21, 1982 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American freestyle swimmer who has won several Olympic medals in his career.
Career
He was part of the legendary US 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay with Michael Phelps , Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay that at the 2004 Olympics in Athens , the Australian hegemony over this distance broke and Olympic champion was. In 2007, at the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne , the same season broke the Australian world record set by Grant Hackett , Michael Klim , Bill Kirby and Ian Thorpe at the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka .
Keller studied from 2000 to 2001 for two years at the University of Southern California , which he left to concentrate more on swimming. During his time with the Trojan Swim Club , the USC swimming team, he won a number of competitions, including the NCAA championships on the 200, 500 and 1650 yard freestyle distances.
Even at the world swimming championships on the long and short course, Keller was able to convince, especially in the relay decisions. Particularly noteworthy is the world championship title at the 2002 Short Track World Championships over the 200 m freestyle in Moscow , as it is his only individual title. From 2004 to 2007, Keller trained at the University of Michigan under Bob Bowman and former head coach Jon Urbanchek . He left Ann Arbor but returned to USC to finish his studies and to train under Dave Solo .
