1- In the men's 100 m freestyle competition, two gold and no silver medals were awarded.
- Two silver medals and no bronze medal were awarded in the women's 200 m breaststroke competition.
2- Oussama Mellouli , who initially won the gold medal in the 800 m freestyle and the silver medal in the 400 m freestyle for Tunisia , was subsequently disqualified in September 2007 for an earlier doping offense. The athletes who had been cheated of their medals followed suit.

The 12th Swimming World Championships took place from March 17th to April 1st 2007 in the Australian city of Melbourne . The World Swimming Federation (FINA) awarded the event on July 12, 2003 on the sidelines of the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona . Melbourne's application prevailed in the vote 15: 6 against the candidacy from Dubai . Australia hosted the World Championships for the third time since 1991 and 1998 .
A temporary pool was built in the Rod Laver Arena for the swimming competitions and synchronized swimming . The diving and water polo competitions were held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center . The open water competitions were held in St Kilda Bay .
