Kathryn Elise "Katie" Hoff (born June 3, 1989 in Stanford , California ) is a former American swimmer .

Career

The student, who trains in a training group with Michael Phelps in Baltimore , was already considered an exceptional talent over both layer distances before the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . However, the then 15-year-old still lacked the necessary routine to take part in the medal battle in Athens. She did not reach the final over 400 m individual medley and suffered a circulatory collapse after the semi-final race.

Swimming World Championships 2005

For the swimming world championships in 2005 in Montréal , a mature Katie Hoff then traveled to the competitions and won the 200 m and 400 m in front of Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe . In addition, she became world champion in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay with the US relay.

At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she was able to successfully defend both the title in the 200 m medley and the over 400 m medley. She swam the world title in the 400 m individual medley with a world record. In addition, she was able to triumph over 4 × 200 m with the American relay at this World Cup.

2008 Summer Olympics

In July 2008, at the Olympic Games in the USA , she performed in excellent form and more than lived up to her favorite roles. They qualified for five competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . Over 400 m individual medley, her parade route, she pushed Stephanie Rice's old world record by 34 hundredths to 4:31.12 minutes. At the Olympic Games, however, Rice got the world record back and Hoff had to be content with third place over 400 m medley. She won the silver medal in the 400 m freestyle.
