Ye Shiwen ( Chinese  詩文  /  叶 诗文 , Pinyin Yè Shīwén ; born March 1, 1996 in Hangzhou , Zhejiang ) is a Chinese swimmer . She is 2012 Olympic champion in the 200 and 400 meter medley.

Career

At the Swimming World Cup 2010 she first attracted international attention - she won gold medals in the 100 m freestyle, 200 m medley and 400 m medley in Beijing . At the short course world championships in Dubai in December she won the silver medal in the 200 m medley and 400 m medley.

At the 2011 World Swimming Championships in Shanghai, China, Ye Shiwen was world champion in the 200 m medley in a time of 2: 08.90 min on July 25th and she finished 5th in the 400 m medley.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she won the 400 m individual medley in a world record time of 4: 28.43 minutes. On the last track, she was 28.93 seconds faster than Olympic champion Ryan Lochte , who needed 29.10 seconds for it on the same day. This extraordinary achievement caused astonishment. Four doping tests were carried out, all of which were negative.

In Barcelona at the 2013 Swimming World Championships , she missed a medal in the 200 m individual medal and reached 4th place.

At the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , she won both races over 200 m medley and 400 m medley, each with a new record for the Asian Games. With the team she won the gold medal in the 400 m freestyle race.

In 2015 she reached the 8th place in the race over 200 m medley at the 2015 World Swimming Championships in Kazan , Russia.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she again reached 8th place in the race over 200 m medley.
