The 2010 FINA World Swimming Championships in swimming were from 15 to 19 December, 2010. Dubai in the United Arab Emirates held and were from the International Swimming Federation FINA organized.

Around 780 athletes from 148 nations took part in the world championships. The venue was the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex . The newly created sports arena offered 10,000 spectators during the competitions.

The most successful swimmer at the World Championships was Ryan Lochte with six gold and one silver medal. He achieved a new world record over 200 m and 400 m individual medley . He achieved the first individual world record since swimming suits were banned . In the women's category , Mireia Belmonte García and Rebecca Soni were the most successful swimmers, each with three gold and one silver medal. A total of four world records were broken at the world championships and world championship records were set in 30 of the 40 competitions held.

The German team was represented at the competitions with eleven athletes, four women and seven men. From a German point of view, the World Championships started disappointingly. Steffen Deibler dropped out of the 100 m butterfly - which was one of the favorites because of his world best time - already in the run-up. Paul Biedermann only reached 5th place over the 200 m freestyle. With three medals (gold from Paul Biedermann over 400 m freestyle, silver from Markus Deibler over 100 m individual medley and bronze from Steffen Deibler over 50 m butterfly), however, the Minimum specification of the DSV still reached.
