Kaio Márcio Ferreira Costa de Almeida (born October 19, 1984 in João Pessoa , Paraíba ) is a Brazilian butterfly swimmer .

Career

He achieved his international breakthrough on December 17, 2005 when he broke the short course world record for the 50 m butterfly at the Brazilian swimming championships , thus taking the world record from the US superstar and butterfly specialist Ian Crocker .

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens he was part of the Brazilian Swimming Olympic Team. In the end it was only enough for 17th place over the 100 m and 19th place over the 200 m butterfly.
His greatest success so far is winning the short course world championship title on the 100 m butterfly course at the short course world championships in Shanghai in 2006 .
