Lutz Dettmann (born March 1961 in Crivitz ) is a German writer.

Dettmann comes from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and lived in Schwerin until 1997. He lives in Rugensee and works as a surveying technician . He is also a member of the board of the Hans Fallada Society and the board of the Friends of the Alter Friedhof Schwerin . Dettmann is married and has two children.

Dettmann became known through his first novel "Who Doesn't Know the Beatles", which describes the youth and the growing up of the male main character in the GDR in the 1970s . His second novel "Tiefenkontrolle" continues the story; it is set during military service in the National People's Army . Both novels are set in Schwerin , Crivitz and the surrounding area. "Summer Days in Estonia" is a travel diary that he kept during a 2000 trip through Estonia . His novel “Anu. A love in Estonia ”describes the love of a Baltic German and an Estonian against the dramatic backdrop of the Second World War in Estonia. The locations are the Estonian island of Hiiumaa (Dagö), Tallinn and parts of eastern and southern Estonia. The novel was published in the Estonian translation by Tallinn publisher Sinisukk in April 2013.

In 2016, “The Journey to Jerusalem - An Israeli Diary” was published, in which he describes his journey through Israel , which happened at the invitation of the Israeli daughter-in-law. In the same publisher, EDITIONdigital, his books “Who Doesn't Know the Beatles”, “Tiefenkontrolle” and “Sommertage in Estonia” were published as e-books. In November 2017, his volume of short stories “Who believes in Santa Claus?” Was published, which brings together 14 Christmas stories from the years 2003 to 2016.

In November 2018, "Ja meie kohal vaid sinine taevas", the continuation of the novel "Anu. A love in Estonia", was published by the Estonian publisher Sinisukk. He continues the story of the Baltic German Christoph and the Estonian Anu. The German edition of the novel was published in January 2019 by Verlag Lehmanns under the title "Und über uns der wide Himmel". At the same time, the first part "Anu. A love in Estonia" was reissued by the same publisher.

With Till Endemann he wrote the screenplay for “Merry Christmas” based on a short story by him. The short film was produced by Filoufilm Dresden and had its premiere during the Shanghai Film Festival in summer 2009. The DVD premiere followed in January 2010, the TV premiere in December 2010 at mdr , then at ARDfestival.
