Francesca Segat (born  January 21, 1983 in Vittorio Veneto ) is an Italian swimmer.

Career

Her first major success was a fifth place over the 200 meter butterfly at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin in 2002 . In the same year she was also fifth over 200 meters and sixth over 100 meters butterfly at the 2002 European Short Course Championships in Riesa .

At the 2003 Swimming World Championships in Barcelona , she finally finished fifth. Only six months later, at the European Short Course Championships in Dublin in 2003 , she won her first medal in international competitions with second place over the 200 meter butterfly.

Segat was part of the Italian Olympic team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . She was 12th over 200 meters and 22nd over 100 meters butterfly.

At the following European short course championships , in 2004 in Vienna and 2005 in Trieste , she was fifth over the 200 meter butterfly course. In 2006 in Helsinki she finished seventh over this distance and in 2008 in Rijeka she finished sixth.

2006 was another very successful year for Segat, as she won the silver medal in the 200 meter butterfly at the 2006 World Short Course Championships in Shanghai and the 2006 European Swimming Championships in Budapest .

In Rijeka at the European Short Course Championships in 2008 she competed for the first time in international championships over the individual distances and celebrated great successes. She secured her first gold medal in the new European record time of 02: 07.03 min in the 200 meter individual medley. She was able to win the bronze medal in the 100 meter and 400 meter medley.

A year later at the European Short Course Championships in 2009 , she won the silver medal in the 200 meter medley.
