Jane Trepp (born March 13, 1988 in Tallinn , then Estonian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Estonian swimmer . Her main courses are the short chest and freestyle courses as well as the swimming pool . By winning the silver medal at the European Short Course Championships in 2009 in Istanbul , she became the first Estonian medalist at the European Short Course Championships.
Career
Trepp won her first Estonian championship title over 50 meters chest in 2003 and competed in her first international competition at the 2003 European Junior Championships in Glasgow . There she won the bronze medal in the 50 meter freestyle behind Daniela Götz and Jeanette Ottesen . She finished seventh and tenth over 50 meters and 100 meters chest respectively. She was then nominated for the 2003 European Short Course in Dublin . In her first international senior championship, she made it into the finals over 50 meters chest and 100 meters medley. She finished eighth and seventh there. She also reached the finals with the Estonian layer relay. The Estonian quartet had to be content with the last place there. Also on the 50-meter lane she reached the final over 50 meters breast at the 2004 European Swimming Championships in Madrid , where she finished last. At the 2004 Junior European Championships in Lisbon , she repeated the results of the previous year and again won the bronze medal in the 50 meters freestyle. Over 50 meters she was disqualified as second in the preliminary run in the semifinals. In Indianapolis , she narrowly missed qualifying for the final run in the 2004 short course world championships over 50 meters chest as ninth in the semifinals. She was 22nd over 100 meters breaststroke. She also failed to make it into the final over 50 meters breaststroke as 12th at the 2004 European Short Course Championships in Vienna . Over the 100 meter individual medley, she was eliminated as 24th in the lead. A year later, Trepp was able to improve its performance on the short layered route and achieved ninth place at the 2005 European Short Course Championships in Trieste . Trepp was the only Estonian starter to take part in the 2006 World Short Course Championships in Shanghai . Over 50 meters chest she was twelve and 18 over 100 meters medley. At the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2006 , she was eliminated from all of her starts in the heats. In 2007, the multiple Estonian champion moved to the USA and has since played for the women's swimming team at Louisiana State University . In the following years, Trepp did not take part in any international championships. The psychology student did not return to the international stage until 2009 at the Universiade in Belgrade , but was eliminated in the preliminaries over 50 meters butterfly and 100 meters breast. Even at the 2009 World Cup in Rome , she did not get beyond the heats at all of her starts. However, she improved the Estonian records over 50 meters and 100 meters chest. All the more surprising were her results at the European Short Course Championships 2009 in Istanbul . After she finished twelfth in the 50 meter freestyle, she reached the final with the third fastest time over 50 meters chest. There she surprisingly won the silver medal behind Moniek Nijhuis and thus became the first Estonian medalist at the European Short Course Championships. She improved the Estonian record to 29.82 seconds. She also improved her Estonian record in the 100 meter camp, reached the finals and finished fifth. Over 100 meters breast she was with a new Estonian record 27. At the 2010 European Swimming Championships in Budapest, she could not continue her performance improvements and did not reach the semi-finals. Two weeks later she started at the 2010 World Short Course Championships in Dubai over the 100 meter medley and easily reached the final, where she swam just past a medal with fourth place.
