Moniek Nijhuis (born March 20, 1988 ) is a Dutch swimmer . Moniek Nijhuis currently lives and trains in Amsterdam at the De Dolfijn swimming club.

Career

Nijhui's special routes are the 50 meter and 100 meter chest distances. After winning the bronze medal at the European Youth Championships in Glasgow in 2003 , she became a part of the Dutch national team at the European Short Course Championships in Dublin in 2003 , where she won the bronze medal with the 4 × 50 meter relay.

In the following year, she was able to win two gold medals over 50 meters and 100 meters chest at the European Youth Championships in Lisbon and a gold medal with the Dutch 4 × 50 meter relay with a new world record at the subsequent European Short Course Championships in 2004 in Vienna .

At the following European short course championships in 2004 in Vienna and 2005 in Trieste , she was the new world record time European short course champion with the Dutch 4 × 50 meter relay.

At the beginning of 2008, Nijhuis announced that it would take more care of her studies in the future and would subsequently neglect training. Shortly afterwards, at the European Swimming Championships in her home country in the city of Eindhoven , she finished 23rd in the 100 meter bust and thus missed the qualification for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .

In Rijeka at the European Short Course Championships in 2008 , she won the gold medal in another world record with the Dutch 4 × 50 meter relay. Over 50 meters chest, she finished sixth.

Nijhuis celebrated her greatest success so far at the European Short Course Championships in 2009 over 50 meters breast, when she won the gold medal in a new European Short Course Championship record time.
