Peter Mankoč (born July 4, 1978 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian swimmer .

Career

Mankoč took part in four Olympic Games, 1996 , 2000 , 2004 and 2008 , in 2004 in Athens with the 13th place over 100 m freestyle and 2008 in Beijing with the 10th place over 100 m butterfly his best results.

He also took part in four swimming world championships from 2001 to 2007 . His best results were the seventh place 2003 in Barcelona over 200 m medley and the eighth place 2007 in Melbourne over 100 m butterfly.

At the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven in 2008 , Mankoč won the silver medal over the 100 m butterfly. He is three times short course world champion and three times short course vice world champion.

Above all, he is known for his appearance at the European Short Course Championships . In twelve European short course championships, he won 18 medals in 28 finals, ten of which are gold. He is considered the only swimmer in the world who was able to defend his title in a discipline nine times in an international competition. Between 2000 and 2008 he won gold nine times over the 100 meter medley. It was not until the European Short Course Championships in Istanbul in 2009 that he was beaten over this distance when he won the bronze medal.

On December 15, 2001 he was able to win the 100 meter medley at the European Short Course Championships in Antwerp with a new world record . It wasn't until almost a year later that Thomas Rupprath managed to take it off him again.

At the 2008 Short Course World Championships in Manchester , he finished second behind Ryan Lochte with a new European record over the same distance.
