Jessica Hardy (born March 12, 1987 in Orange , California ) is an American swimmer . Unusually, she was one of the world's best swimmers over the 50 m freestyle course as well as the short chest courses; it is considered difficult to achieve top performance in both of these swimming styles.

life and career

Hardy lives in Long Beach , California. She is a member of the Trojan Swim Club , the swimming division of the University of Southern California , where her trainer is Dave Salo . After breaking the world record in the 100m chest as a student at Long Beach Wilson Senior High School in 2005, she swam for the University of California, Berkeley , where she was NCAA champion four times . At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she was able to convince once again by winning the gold medal over the 50 m chest distance. At the short course world championships in Manchester in 2008 , she established herself as a three-time world champion at the top of the world.

Hardy was originally part of the USA Olympic team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , as she had outstandingly qualified for the 50 m freestyle course, the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and the 100 m chest course at the USA Olympics . On August 1, 2008, the USADA announced that Hardy tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol on July 4, 2008 at the 2008 Olympiatrials . As a result, she was excluded from the US Olympic team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and initially banned for two years. This doping ban was later reduced to one year; the world swimming federation FINA and the world anti-doping authority WADA have appealed against this shortening of the embargo at the international sports court CAS. The court ruled in Hardy’s favor in May 2010 and the suspension was not extended to two years.

In the future, she also wants to design swimwear as well as swimming.
