Margaret Josephine Hoelzer (born March 30, 1983 in Huntsville , Alabama ) is an American swimmer.

Career

At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she was world champion over 200 m back. Also at the short course world championships in 2004 and 2006 she was able to win the 200 m back gold on her parade route. At the short course world championships in Manchester in 2008 she then had to admit defeat to Kirsty Coventry over this distance and only won the bronze medal. But just three months later, at the Olympic Games in the USA , she caused a big surprise when she temporarily lost the long-track world record by winning the 200 m backseat Coventry.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , Hoelzer won the silver medal in the 200 m back and the bronze medal in the 100 m back.
