Career

At the swimming world championships in 1982 and 1986 Sirch won the world title over 200 meters back, where she secured the title in Guayaquil in 1982 with a new world record . The world record time at that time was 2:09:91 minutes. In 1983 , 1985 and 1987 she was each European champion on her parade route. In 1987 she also became European champion in the 200 meter medley. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, Sirch swam bronze medals over 100 meters and 200 meters back and a gold medal over 4 × 100 m individual medals; in the tier relay, however, it was only used in advance. After the games in Seoul, she ended her swimming career.

Sirch then worked as a men's tailor, head of a driving school and, from 1994, as a swimming trainer in the youth sector. She has been employed by Stadtwerke Erfurt Bäder GmbH since 2004 and leads beginners and advanced swimming courses.

Sirch received the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold in 1986 and in bronze in 1988.

GDR doping

Sirch trained like Birte Weigang and Torsten Karl with trainer Wolfgang Fricke at SC Turbine Erfurt . All three athletes were systematically doped as part of the state plan topic 14.25 and suffered health problems as a result.
