Cornelia Polit , married Embacher , (born February 18, 1963 in Teutschenthal ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the GDR . Today she is a swimming trainer at SV Halle / Saale .
Athletic career
In the course of her swimming career, Polit changed her swimming style preference. First she was on her back - and then she was successful on the butterfly distances.
As early as 1978 she was double European youth champion over the 100 meter and 200 meter back course. She won her only Olympic medal, silver over 200 meters back behind Rica Reinisch , at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow .
In 1981 she became European champion over the 200 meters back and vice European champion over 100 meters back in Split .
After a disappointing year for her in 1982, she specialized in the butterfly position and was European champion in 1983 with a new European record over 200 meters butterfly and vice-European champion over 100 meters butterfly. In 1980 she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
Professional career
Polit completed her training as an educator with a qualification to teach sports and crafts in 1984. She worked as a swimming instructor until German reunification . Cornelia Polit has been a swimming trainer (with a B license) and aqua fitness trainer at SV Halle since 1990 . Since 1999 she has been in charge of the state swimming base.
From their training group, Susann Reinhardt, Theresa Michalak , Melanie Radicke and Julia Willers were part of the German junior national team at the European Youth Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) .
Private
From 1974 to 1982 she attended the children's and youth sports school "Friedrich Engels" in Halle / Saale.
Cornelia Polit married the East German swimmer Frank Embacher . Together they have a son, Toni Embacher , who was also very successful in German swimming.
Awards
- 2010: Trainer award (best young trainer) of the State Sports Association of Saxony-Anhalt
