Michalak grew up in Halle (Saale) and attended the Halle sports high school . In January 2015, she announced that she was dating a woman.

successes

  • In 2007, the fifteen-year-old brought two age-class records over 100 and 200 m medley at the German Short Course Championships in Essen, and with that, German championship titles in each case for senior citizens.
  • At the German Short Course Championships in 2008 in the main pool in Essen , she won over 100, 200 and 400 m individual medley.
  • At the short course World Cup in Stockholm (2009) she swam over 100 meters in 59.34 seconds, a German record previously held by Britta Steffen .
  • At the short course World Cup in Berlin (2009), she improved the German record in the 200 meter medley from 2: 09.40 minutes to 2: 07.65 minutes.
  • At the German Short Course Championships in Essen (November 2009) she won the 100, 200 and 400 meter medley competitions in 59.42 seconds, 2: 08.47 minutes and 4: 32.62 minutes and was German champion each time . It fulfilled the norm for the European Championships from December 10th to 13th, 2009 in Istanbul in all three routes.
  • At the short course World Cup in Berlin in 2008, Theresa Michalak won the 200 meter medley in 2: 10.92 minutes. Over half the distance she was third in 1: 01.22 minutes.
  • In 2010 Michalak took 5th place at the short course world championships in Dubai over 100 meters as well as 3rd place at the European short course championships in Eindhoven over 100 meters and a 4th place over 200 meters.
  • At the World Cup in Stockholm 2011, the sports student won over 100 meters, and at the World Cup in Berlin she came second.
  • At the European Short Course Championships 2011 in Szczecin, Michalak surprisingly won her first international title in a German record in 59.05 seconds over 100 meters ahead of Zsuzsanna Jakabos , Hungary, and Mie Ø. Nielsen , Denmark.
  • The German Short Course Championships 2012 in Wuppertal brought her the titles over 100, 200 and 400 m medley again.
  • She qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London over 200 m medley and 200 m freestyle for the relay.

Awards

  • Michalak was named Sportswoman of the Year in Halle in 2008. She received the honorary award of the State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.
