history
In 1955, the then Friedrich-Engels-Oberschule in the Friesenstrasse in Halle received the status of a children's and youth sports school . On April 1, 1968, she moved into a new boarding school building on Robert-Koch-Strasse, which was followed in March by a new school building and later a swimming pool, running and gymnasium and an athletics stadium. The sports school in Halle produced numerous top performers in GDR sports. By 1989, pupils and former pupils of the school had won 49 gold, 45 silver and 41 bronze medals at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships. After the fall of the Wall, the children's and youth sports school was converted into a sports high school with an attached sports secondary school on September 11, 1991 and is now called “Sports Schools Halle”.
