Torsten Spanneberg (born April 13, 1975 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German swimmer .

Career

Torsten Spanneberg began his sports career at the age of six in the Halle-Neustadt training center at SSV 70 Halle-Neustadt. In 1986 he moved to SV Halle and in 1992 won his first gold medal at the Junior World Championships with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay. At the 2000 Summer Olympics he won the bronze medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay . He also took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2000 he switched to SG Neukölln for reasons of study . His trainer is Norbert Warnatzsch . For winning the bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, Federal President Johannes Rau awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf.
