German team championships swimming
The German Swimming Team Championships, or DMS for short, are the league competitions in swimming . As in other sports, there is a 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and, in descending order, other leagues. There are also rules of promotion and relegation. Because swimming is an individual sport and not a team sport , there are some special features in the DMS leagues.
League division
The division into leagues applies equally to men's and women's teams. There are separate leagues for men and women, but women and men are always swum in parallel at the respective competitions.
The 1st Bundesliga consists of twelve teams. There are three 2nd federal leagues: North for Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg , Bremen , Lower Saxony , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Berlin , Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt , West for North Rhine-Westphalia and South for the remaining federal states. The establishment of its own 2. Bundesliga East failed in March 2005 after only nine months.
The regional association leagues (Bayernliga, Sachsenliga etc.), the regional leagues and, as the lowest level, the district leagues exist under the 2nd Bundesliga.
The competitions usually take place twice a year, in a preliminary and an independent final. Since 2011 the competitions have taken place in February and March. The preliminary fight, in which six teams of men and women compete together in one city, is used to divide into promotion and relegation groups for the final battle. In the 1st Bundesliga, the usual promotion battle is called "championship round". The winning team of the championship round may hold the title of German team champions .
General
stretch
In the league competitions all Olympic courses are swum, i. H. 200/400 m layers , 100/200 m back , 100/200 m breast , 100/200 m butterfly and 50/100/200/400 m freestyle . There are also 1500 m freestyle for men and 800 m freestyle for women. The 100 m individual medley was dropped in 2011, as the pre- and final match in the 1st Bundesliga will be played on the 50 m track and the routes are the same in all leagues.
Course of the competitions
A total of two self-contained sections are required for this, which are either spread over different days or in the morning and afternoon of the same day. In both sections, a swimmer from each club competes over each route. In practice, six swimmers from the six different clubs start in a position against each other. After the six men swim the same distance next, the women start again with the next layer and alternately so on until all layers have been swum once. The second section starts analogously to the first with other swimmers. For each achieved time there is a number of points, which is calculated using the DSV points table.
In total, a swimmer may only be used a maximum of five times in both sections. This requires great skill from the coach in planning the operations so that no points are lost due to overstrained swimmers and the team as a whole scores optimally.
Special regulations
A special feature is the behavior in the event of disqualifications : only the disqualified swimmer is allowed to swim. This start is included in the calculation of the starts, so that this often results in short-term changes to the line-up. If there is another violation of the rules during the post-swim, the course will be scored with zero points for the team.
Unlike usual, the individual swimmers do not need to be known in advance for this competition. The trainer only has to name the starters immediately before the start of the competition.
Change of the special regulations
Due to the resolution of the DSV Swimming Committee on October 17, 2009 in Rostock-Bentwisch, the regulation of post-swimming for the DMS will be changed as follows:
Each swimmer may only start in five competitions per round, whereby a swim course may only be repeated in the event of a subsequent swim. If a swimmer is disqualified in a competition, the same swimmer can repeat the respective individual competition at the end of the same event section. If a swimmer ends his competition by giving up, the same swimmer can repeat the respective individual competition at the end of the same event section. The start in the post-swim counts towards the number of starts the swimmer takes. If a swimmer is disqualified during the post-swim, another post-swim is not permitted.
Ascent and descent
In general, the two worst teams are relegated from the relegation group for the next year and the two best teams are promoted from the promotion group. A descent from the ascent group and vice versa is not possible. Most of the time, as in the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, the six best teams from the three second division clubs are brought together to a promotion meeting. In the lowest league, on the other hand, there is only a single meeting (during the final battle of the higher leagues) and the promotion is determined in a remote duel .
meaning
Since swimming is considered an individual sport in the eyes of many spectators and parents, the team championships are much less known than the corresponding individual championships. In general, admission up to the 2nd Bundesliga is free, but the audience's interest is limited. In the championship round in 2005, around 200 spectators were counted. Nevertheless, the mood at the edge of the pool is usually very good even in the lower leagues. The team championships ensure a sense of togetherness that is otherwise not so strong among the swimmers of a club. This can be seen in common outfits , specially rehearsed battle cries and a huge background noise, especially before the final 100 m freestyle. Here the competition must sometimes be interrupted for several minutes because the referees cannot communicate with one another due to the loud cheering calls .
German team champions
In 2010 there was no DMS due to the postponement of the competition from autumn to spring.
